Select Exposure

The 2009 Select Exposure teams started their seasons off at the Michaelt T White Signature event, The Deep South Classic.

With a strong showing at the tournament the Select Teams finished 18th in the 16U signatured division and some players drawing attention from high and mid major D1 universities.

After Deep South the Blue Team competed in the MAYB Spring tournament and won the championship defeating the Memphis Lady Vipers.

Up Next for Select Exposure is the TN Miracle Classic in Gatlinburg, TN.
Then preparation for the July Evaluation period. Good luck to both teams this weekend as they prep for competition on the East Side of the State.

Select 13U Updates

The Newly formed and highly competitive 13U Select team started the season making a statement in Memphis, TN. In their first action of the season they took a very experienced Elite 13U team to the wire.

The next weekend with the absence of one of their top guards they suffered another lost in the sub state, recieving runner up and still qualifying for the state tournament in AAU.

After that loss they have rebounded well by winning the MAYB Spring Tournament this past weekend and they are looking forward to a strong showing in the AAU State May 15.

Select 12U Updates

The Select 12U Team coached by Maurice Burton started this spring/summer season winning the Arkansas Sparks Classic and going 2 and 1 in the Heart of Dixie I in Birmingham Alabama.

After close losses in the Sub State and the Little Rock Super Regional the 12U Select will regroup from a few injuries and prepare to compete in the Monroe, LA Super Regional in a few weeks.

The first practice will be held at Sherwood Middle School on Tuesday March 17, 2009 at 5:30pm. Bring a parent or guardian with you to the first practice there will be a parent meeting at the beginning of practice.

Once again congratulations to the ladies who made the team and thanks to all the young ladies who tried out for the team, keep working hard and getting better at this game we all love.

Memphis Select

Region 8AAA Runner Up

Last week Freshman Cornelia Fondren and her teammates at Overton High came up short against the Central Warriors in the Regional Championship. Cornelia Fondren was selected on the All Tournament Team.

Overton advanced despite the loss to play Millington in the substate round. Last night Cornelia contributed 11pts and a 100% effort in their win last night over the trojans. Congratulations to the Overton basketball team as they advance to the state tournament next week.

Bishop Byrne Wins State Over Lausanne

Last Week in their fourth match up of the season, Bishop Byrne defeated last year state champion the Lausanne Lynx for the 2009 State Championship. Three Select Ladies competed in this event, Cherease Willingham and Brandy Whitaker of Bishop Byrne and Katelyn Morris of Lausanne. We would like to congratulate the 3 of these young women for their accomplishments this season and gear up for summer basketball.

Cornelia Fondren District 15AAA Champion

Last Night Memphis Selects, Cornelia Fondren, was a key component in Overton High Schools District Championship win over White Station last night as she has been for the whole season.
Last Night she was the only FRESHMAN to make the District 15AAA All Tournament Team.

Overton's next task is to win the Regional Tournament and advance to state, good luck Cornelia.

Ebony Hayes Middle School State Champion

Memphis Select would like to congratulate 6'3 Post Ebony Hayes on a remarkable season with Havenview Middle School.

Ebony help lead her team to an undefeated record with the City and West TN Sectional Championships. Ebony averaged a double double this year in points and rebounds and was a part of the Sectional All Tournament Team.

Memphis Select Player selected as MVP

Cornelia Fondren was named MVP last week in the West Tn Sectional Freshmen tournament.
She helped Overton High School in a victory over Whitehaven. This tournament was held at Fayette Ware High School.

Overton will take the floor this Thursday night at Hamilton High School, as they face Central High School tip off is at 6 pm

Upcoming Try-outs

Hello all,

As you know we are getting ready for another exciting season of Memphis Select Basketball.
As this new season starts, so will the changes. First change- We are now apart of the Michael T. White sposorship. We will have our older girls in exposure tournaments helping them prepare to play ball at the college level. Our younger girls will continue to play AAU ball.

Our hope for this season is to develop leaders in the ladies of Memphis Select that will continue to stay with them on and off the court

Try-outs will be Feb. 21st for 10u- 13u and March 7th for 9th and 10th graders.
